Kit: Ertl 1966 Riviera Lowrider
I have no idea how I came up with this paint job. I started out by
airbrushing the body Boyds orange pearl. After a couple of hours of masking the panels, I
decided to use three Tamiya clear colors and Boyds purple pearl to fill them in. I started
out by painting vertical stripes across the upper and lower panels from light to dark
colors, fading as I changed colors. When that was done I filled the middle panel in with
the purple pearl. The whole car was then shot with two coats of metalflake clear. This was
done by adding metalflake powder from Pegasus to Boyds clear. When that was dry I wet
sanded the entire surface then shot two coats of plain clear over that. The two tone
Pegasus wheels make this awesome lowrider complete. Purple and orange flocking from Ken's,
were added to the white seats, door panels, and package shelf to give the interior the
proper look. Also added to the interior were a bunch of Detail Master speaker grills which
were airbrushed orange. The chassis and engine bay were also painted to match the
color theme on the body. I cut the rear bumper and installed straight exhaust tips through
the cut outs and they look great. I wired the nailhead V8 and scratch built a couple of
velocity stack air cleaners to make the motor compartment stand out.(see picture
below). This kit wasn't too bad to build. Some of the final assemblies took a little more
patients than others, but the final outcome was nothing short of fantastic!!!! The
lowrider bike that comes with the kit is pretty cool too.
